Dr. GPS Dhillon obtained his Masters degree in Forestry from PAU Ludhiana with OGPA of 4.0 /4.0 and joined as Asst Scientist at Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri in July 1992. He completed his Doctorate degree in Forestry from the Forest Research Institute Deemed University, Dehradun. He was promoted as Tree Breeder and Senior Tree Breeder in December, 2004 and December, 2010, respectively. Dr. Dhillon has been actively involved in teaching of under-graduate and post-graduate courses of Forestry. He played key role for making the Mist Chamber operational, which resulted in supply of clonal planting stock of shisham and Eucalyptus to tree growers. His major contributions include the recommendation of three Eucalyptus clones (C-72, C-413 and C-2045), two poplar clones (L-47/88 and L-48/89) and two varieties of Burma Dek (Punjab Dek- 1 and Punjab Dek-2) for commercial cultivation in Punjab. He has been instrumental in recommendation of one clone (PE-11) and planting technique of Eucalyptus under saline waterlogged conditions. He has handled five adhoc projects as PI/Co-PI and published till date sixty six research papers in journals of national/international repute; one book; three book chapters; thirty popular articles; two practical manuals, etc. He has guided ten M.Sc. Forestry students as major advisor.
